What are the roads like?
The roads throughout Iran are surprisingly good. Almost all of your trip will be on modern 4-lane highways. Once you leave the cities there is little traffic, but within some of the large cities, such as Tehran and Shiraz, there is a fair amount of traffic congestion. Many road signs are in English as well as in Farsi, the Iranian language.
