Iran’s Hidden Secret
“The Skiing’s Some of the Best in the World”
Come Ski & Snowboard in Iran this Winter
The combination of world-class skiing and Iran is not one that immediately comes to mind. But the truth is that Iran boasts some of the best skiing in the world.
The largest ski resort, Dizin, is around a 2-hour drive from the Tehran airport. Due to its high altitude, the ski season in Dizin is a long one, from late November until late May.
The base at around 9,000 feet is higher than the summit of many Alpine resorts. Dizin, with its dry climate, boasts some of the best powder skiing in the world. The fact that it faces north also contributes to the high quality of the snow. And the surrounding scenery is fantastic.
The lifts take you to an altitude of almost 12,000 feet above sea level. Dizin has a large variety of ski runs for anyone from beginners to professional skiers, but it should be said that Dizin is geared towards the more experienced skier. The vertical drop is substantial.
You can count on long powder runs and the vertical drop of over 3,000 feet. The snow quality at Dizin is fantastic and rivals that of many European and Rocky Mountain snow areas.
At Dizin you will find a variety of green, blue black diamond and double black diamond runs. If you should opt for ski instruction you’ll find that you can have an instructor for the whole day for not much more than you would pay for an hour of instruction in the U.S. or Europe.
The Dizin Ski Resort is recognized by the International Ski Federation and is home to many international competitions.
You can get a good idea of what skiing is like in Dizin by viewing some of the many Youtube.com videos available. Just go to Youtube.com and search for “Iran Ski”. Check out the example below:

The Dizin Hotel was built during the Shah’s time, in 1969, and is a ski-in ski-out Alpine-style facility. The Shah was an avid skier and had his own private suite at the hotel.
The hotel is rated 3-star, and while it is not as luxurious as hotels at American and European ski resorts it is perfectly comfortable. The Dizin Hotel is located at the base of the slopes, just walk out the door and get on a lift.
Skiing is above the tree line. The pistes are mainly intermediate, but there are several expert pistes available. There is also plenty of off-piste skiing and many of those are considered very challenging.
There are around 20 lifts and 15 pistes, but not all may be open at the same time. On the other hand, there are very few crowds on the slopes and waiting on lift lines should not be a problem. Lift tickets run from $20-25 a day depending on which pass you buy.
If you need even more challenging ski activity then we can arrange for you to go over to the Shemshak ski area, around 9 miles from Dizin.
There the slopes are steeper and you will encounter more moguls. At Shemshak you will encounter double-black and triple-black diamond runs. It is a haven for Iran’s more serious skiers.
If you choose to ski in Iran, Iran Luxury Travel will make all the necessary arrangements. We will help you secure a visa and provide everything you need for a once-in-a-lifetime ski experience.
